Daftar Hotel - The cosy, oddly-paired architecture near Jeanette Wetterling's co-op apartment in the McGill ghetto make sense since so many students are seasonal movers in and out of the neighbourhood. So it is like cleansing your palette with freshly squeezed orange juice when you arrive at Wetterling's sunlit Hutchison Street pad. The second-floor apartment seems to float on a cloud of serenity. Inside, a few carefully chosen, vibrantly coloured accessories stand out against the off-white walls and buttery blond hardwood floors. Wetterling, a native Swede who practises feng shui, has a home that also reflects her career as a home stager (prepping homes for quicker sale by reorganizing the interiors). The name of her company, Purespace, also sums up her design approach. She says rotating personal items from view keeps the decor on the move and eye-catching.

How have you created a space that's right for you and your family?

Hotel Murah di Jakarta I like to have a very open space. I don't like a cluttered space and neither does my husband, who is an architectural technician. My colour themes always change depending on the year or my mood. I change the pillowcases, the curtains, I change the carpets and sometimes I repaint, too. But lately I like to keep it white. In the past we've also had the walls light beige, olive green and (some walls) a darker chocolate colour.

(The floor in front of the fireplace has large pebbles.)

What are the stones for?

I handpicked them in a store where you buy rocks by the truckload. It makes it feel like you're outside a little bit. And I actually didn't like the tiles underneath, so I wanted to cover that. The paintings (on the living room wall) are actually made by my neighbour's partner. They're colourful and happy. I have some paintings of my own but I put them away because these ones here are very colourful and so, for the rest of the decor, we cannot have more than that... it becomes too cluttered and there are too many impressions, it's too much to take in and it's not calm.

You seem to like light fixtures as decorative objects. Tell me about that.

Well this one is my mother's (she points to a ceiling-to-floor, translucent sculptural light source). She bought it in the 60s in Sweden but it's from Italy. It's like a nylon stocking (over a tubular, Slinky-like frame). Even though it was bought in the 60s you can still buy the same light today. I'm not very fond of overhead lighting. I have lots of lamps. That's pretty Swedish. In Sweden there are always lamps in all the windows.

There are hardly any photos of your family around, except one large one of your son. Do prefer abstract art or patterns in your décor to more obviously personal items?

I don't know, really. I'm not so fond of having pictures of my family everywhere, with all of them looking at you. (The actual people) are right in front of me. We take a lot of pictures, like of my son playing hockey, and we do look at them. (As art) I would prefer photos of buildings or items, in black and white. It's more about shapes.

What five objects do you really like in your home?

I really like my big kitchen; my son can practise hockey against the wall in there and, when we have parties, it's just a great big place for people to be. (We head into Wetterling's bedroom, where bright red floral pillows pop out against the comfy-looking cream-coloured duvet on the bed.) I like my pillows. They're by a designer from Finland, Marimekko. (We look into the bathroom.) I really like my crystal chandelier in the bathroom, because it feels like luxury when you take your shower in the morning, you know. I feel like a princess or something. It feels festive. And (the chandelier) is not grandmother-style; it's still modern. (We move into the hallway) I really like my husband's wakeboard (hanging on the wall). I like my mother's lamp. And I do really like my ball-light in the kitchen. It's big and bright and funny.

How do you practise feng shui (the Chinese art and science which aims to balance the energies of a given space to assure the health and good fortune of its residents)?

I should say that I did study feng shui and how you can go deeply into it by using when you're born and (determining) your best directions for sleeping and for working. Certain things work just for you and other things work for everybody. Like if in your hallway you are falling on to 20 pairs of shoes, that's not good. Clutter is a big thing. And you should not have objects pointing toward someone. It's like a sharp knife. You should never have the head of your bed straight under a window because then you don't have any support. Or you should never have your bed in a corner. You need a wall backing you. That's in general. But if you look at when you're born, then different people have better and worse directions for sleeping patterns and working and things like that. (So for a shared, family living space) you have to do what's best for everyone, all together. You have to compromise in terms of positioning furniture. We've done that.

What's your advice for people who want to make their homes more harmonious?

De-clutter. Don't keep everything. Get rid of the things that you don't need anymore. Feng shui on a general level is not complicated for most people: Have space around your furniture. Don't have clutter everywhere. Don't fall over 20 pairs of shoes. Don't scream when you're trying to find your tennis racket because it takes an hour to find it in your closet. Then there's a problem. You get angry and that's not fun.

Zodiac Signs

Daftar Hotel - The family of a 23-year-old Burnaby man is “devastated and traumatized” after they found the drowned man’s body following an eight-day search. Police divers and search and rescue teams had been unsuccessful in finding Chad Thornhill’s body after he disappeared following an April 3 canoeing accident on the swollen Nanaimo River.

Hotel di Cirebon  But RCMP Const. Sue Phillips said relatives spent eight days going up and down the river in a Zodiak searching for his body.

“The body was found in a very calm section of the river,” she added. “They had an underwater camera and he was down about 12 feet.”

The RCMP dive team helped recover the body.

She said the tragedy occurred when four people went out in a pair of canoes near Nanaimo’s Bungy Zone and one canoe capsized. “Two guys went into the water and one feller was floating down the middle of the river and the deceased man swam towards the shore,” she said.

The other canoe went to rescue the man in the river, thinking the dead man was going to be OK, as he was hanging onto a tree.

“They plucked the one guy out of the middle of the river and looked back and went, ‘Where did he go?’” she said. “He had disappeared. It’s icy cold water and he’d slipped under the surface.” She said the boaters weren’t wearing life-jackets.

Phillips said the dead man’s family is feeling a “great sense of relief” that their ordeal is nearing an end. She said one of the relatives, who wasn’t ready to talk to the media, plans to ask for warning signs to be placed on the Nanaimo River that tell boaters not to enter when the water reaches a certain level.

"The police must appreciate Susno rather than threatening him."

Benny said the commission was ready to protect Susno from any threat.

'Clash of the Titans

Nama Hotel - Do you like hunky, dreadlocked actors battling computer-generated giant scorpions, giant sea monsters with beady eyes, and a snake-haired woman whose gaze can turn men to stone (no, it’s not Lady Gaga’s new look)? Do you enjoy unnecessary remakes of B-movies from the 1980s? Would you like to see Sam Worthington act with his legs this time? Are you able to turn your brain off for two hours? If you answered yes to the above questions, you may find enjoyment in the mindless fun of director Louis Leterrier’s “Clash of the Titans” starring Sam “Avatar” Worthington.

Hotel di Bogor  “Clash of the Titans” is a retelling of the classic Greek myth of the half-man, half-god Perseus. The film tells of man’s rebellion against the gods of Olympus and their attempts to punish man for his insolence and unbelief. Perseus, son of a human woman and Zeus (Liam “Taken” Neeson), seeks revenge against the god Hades (Ralph “Voldemort” Fiennes) for killing his adopted family.

Perseus is eventually tasked with saving the city of Argos from the wrath of Hades and his son, the sea-monster Kraken. Lost yet? Do not be afraid, there is plenty of exposition to help you make sense of the plot which boils down to: man’s family dies, man goes on quest for X to defeat Y, man romances hot old lady. Oh, did I mention battles with monsters?

“Clash of the Titans” is an utterly average but fun thrill ride that will probably only be worth seeing on the big screen. Most of the fun comes from the sound design, like the sound of Medusa’s tail rattling slightly in the back of the theatre or the boom of the Kraken’s roar.

These touches are only effective in a surround-sound theater. So if you are remotely interested in seeing this film, see it in theaters and in 2D – the movie was made as 2D movie but was later transferred into 3D, which is never a good sign. A movie like this lives or dies by three things: the monsters, the actors and the battles of the two. By those criteria, “Clash of the Titans” mildly succeeds, mainly as a spectacle.

As you may know, this “Clash” is a remake of a 1981 film starring Harry Hamlin and a Laurence “Paycheck” Olivier. Olivier, probably one of the greatest actors of all time, was clearly just collecting a paycheck for his role as Zeus, but part of the fun of the original comes from seeing him in a B-movie.

His heirs in this film, Liam Neeson (Zeus) and Ralph Fiennes (Hades), are one of the weakest parts of the film. Their beards are clearly fake, and the effects associated with Hades are laughable.

Luckily, the rest of the effects are reasonably good and remind me of the 1999 remake of “The Mummy.” The original “Clash” effects were by stop-motion master Ray Harryhausen and were very memorable for their original style and campy look.

The monsters in the new film look good and move smoothly but are quite generic. Only the Kraken really inspires any sort of fear, mainly due to its sheer size. The Medusa in the original film is quite scary and the new one doesn’t even compare, although the battle with her is well staged.

The acting in this film is quite average as well. Sam Worthington, fresh off of “Avatar,” reads the cheesy lines he is given to the best of his abilities. He swings a magical sword with the best of them, although his strangely modern haircut sticks out like a sore thumb in ancient Greece. Mads Mikkelsen is great fun as the sourpuss soldier Draco who assists Perseus on his quest to kill the Kraken.

The story is pure fantasy and at some points contradicts itself. For example, a prophecy that is foretold by the movie turns out to be false and the movie never explains why. I can’t say more than that and not spoil the ending, which is easy to guess anyway.

Overall, I did enjoy the experience of the film as more of a ride than a good movie. Once you accept the rules of the film—Zeus is real, gravity doesn’t exist, and horses have wings—then you are in for an enjoyable adventure.

If fantasy isn’t your cup of tea, I would recommend skipping this and watching “Hot Tub Time Machine” instead. It’s a hot tub that is a time machine, what’s fantastical about that? If you do venture out to see “Clash,” don’t forget to bring your low expectations.

Passover, Holocaust Remembrance Day

Daftar Hotel - As the Passover holiday draws to an end, the Jewish community will now turn its attention to the next Jewish day of remembrance. Holocaust Remembrance Day falls this year on April 11, the Julian calendar date that corresponds to the 27th day of the Hebrew month of Nisan. This specific date was selected by the Israeli Knesset for an annual, internationally recognized day of remembrance in tribute to the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising that took place in the spring of 1943.
Hotel di Medan The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising began on the eve of Passover when the Nazis stormed the Polish ghetto with the intention of liquidating it. The roughly 55,000 Jews still clinging to life inside the ghetto managed to keep the Nazis at bay for more than a month.
Although their uprising ultimately failed, it became a rallying cry of hope, symbolizing a desperate bid for liberation by hundreds of thousands of European Jews trapped behind ghetto brick and death camp wire.

It is more than fitting then that Holocaust Remembrance Day follows so closely on the heels of Passover, the ancient spring festival that also remembers desperate times and celebrates victory over oppression.

Specifically, Passover commemorates the liberation of the Hebrew people from slavery and their exodus from Egypt 3,300 years ago. The holiday begins each year with a Seder, a festive meal that incorporates many rituals and many symbolic foods.

These foods include hard boiled eggs representing the circle of life, bitter herbs representing the drudgery of slavery, and green vegetables representing the promise of spring. Matzah, the emblematic food of Passover, represents the unleavened bread that the Hebrew slaves hastily made before fleeing Egypt.

The main purpose of the Seder is to retell the story of the Exodus and to remind those gathered that "slaves we were to Pharaoh in Egypt and God brought us out from there."

This Exodus narrative is explicitly laid out in the Haggadah, the liturgical text derived from rabbinical teachings and Torah and used as a guide to the Seder meal.

"Reading the story anew each year in the Passover Haggadah inevitably calls to mind the whole sweep of Jewish history," writes American historian Jonathan D. Sarna in his book A Time to Every Purpose. "Anyone who has ever moved from being unfree to being free can understand what Passover means."

Since publication of the first Haggadah in Guadalajara, Spain, in 1482, the text has undergone hundreds of revisions and adaptations, most of them reflecting different denominational, historical, philosophical and political perspectives. There are now Haggadot that expand the Exodus narrative to include discussions of the civil rights movement, women's liberation, the genocide in Darfur, gay and lesbian inclusiveness, vegetarianism, the Mideast conflict and the Holocaust, its martyrs and survivors.

One of these survivors, Lithuanian Hebrew teacher Yosef Sheinson, created his own illustrated Haggadah while interned in a displaced persons camp in Munich following the war. A Survivor's Haggadah parallels the story of the Exodus with the story of the Holocaust but does so in a way that emphasizes differences in the experiences rather than any similarities. While the traditional Haggadah praises God for his salvation and compassion, Sheinson's Haggadah censures God for his lack of both.

Juxtapositioning the Exodus with Holocaust events like the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising has generated intense debate for decades. Whether they are viewed as similar or disparate experiences, or as proof or a lack thereof of God's existence, they are each defining moments in the history of the Jewish people.

Both the Exodus and the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, Jonathan Sarna writes, "reflect the quest for a better life, a better world, and a better tomorrow."

Both Passover and Holocaust Remembrance Day reflect the universal quest for freedom.
